Deleting your account
You can do this yourself, from this page or from the app. It happens straight away — there is no waiting period, nothing to approve, and nobody to ask.
What happens
- Any table you are hosting that has not happened yet is cancelled, and everyone holding a seat at it is told. They are told the table is off, not what you did with your account.
- Any seat you are holding is released. A group table that drops below the number it needs dissolves rather than run short — the same rule that applies whenever anybody leaves.
- Your profile, your photograph, your interests, your area and your history are deleted, along with your sign-in and every device you are signed in on.
- Everything you have written in a thread is deleted. Threads are cleared a day after their table anyway; this covers the ones that have not got there yet.
What stays, and why
- Photographs you added of tea stalls. They are pictures of a place, not of you, and the place is still there. The same is true of any tapri or area you added: it keeps existing, and the note of who added it becomes the word “deleted”.
- The record of decisions our staff made. If somebody on our side ever approved, declined or suspended an account, the note of what they did is kept. It is a safety record, and it is about them as much as about you.
- If your account was suspended or declined, we keep a one-way fingerprint of the Google sign-in it used — not your email, not your name, not anything we could read back. It exists so that deleting an account and signing up again cannot be used to shed a suspension. An account in good standing leaves nothing at all.
Doing it
In the app: Account → Delete your account.
Here: sign in, open the account menu at the top right, and choose Delete your account. You will be shown exactly what it will do to your account — counted, not in general terms — before anything happens.
If you cannot sign in
If you have lost the Google account you joined with, write to [email protected] and tell us enough to find the account. We will do it and confirm when it is done.
